What I Learned in My First 30 Days of Blogging—The Truth No One Tells You

So, I did it.

I jumped headfirst into blogging, and let me tell you—I’ve learned a lot in just 30 days.

Some things surprised me, some frustrated me, and others made me question my sanity entirely.

If you’re just starting out, thinking about blogging, or knee-deep in SEO research (while simultaneously crying into your coffee), this post is for you.

Because here’s the truth: I have no idea what I’m doing most days—but I’m excited and sticking to it.

Let’s talk about the biggest lessons I’ve learned so far.

1. Pinterest Is a Powerful Tool—But I Need to Set Up My Ground Game First

Within the first week of starting my blog, I realized something big: Pinterest is huge for driving traffic.

And there are so many experts out there who genuinely know what they’re doing.

They’ve cracked the code on strategies that work, and I respect that.

But right now, as a new blogger, I need to focus on building my foundation—creating content, setting up a workflow, and learning the basics.

I know Pinterest will play a big role in my growth, and I plan to invest time into it.

But for now, my priority is writing great blog posts and ensuring I have a solid starting point before diving into advanced strategies.

2. SEO Is Both My Best Friend and My Worst Enemy

I knew SEO was important. But did I really know what it entailed? Absolutely not.

Here’s what I’ve learned so far:

  • Keywords matter, but you can’t just shove them everywhere.
  • Google doesn’t care how hard you worked on a post—it cares about structure, readability, and search intent.
  • It’s a long game. A very long game.

Some days, I feel like I’m crushing it.

Other days, I question whether my blog will ever rank on Google.

But I keep tweaking, learning, and adjusting—because the only way to get better is to keep going.

3. Blogging Feels Like Talking to the Void (At First)

You hit publish.

You wait.

And… nothing happens.

No comments, no shares, no overnight success.

At first, it’s discouraging.

But here’s what I remind myself daily: every successful blogger started here.

They all had zero traffic at one point. They kept writing, improving, and showing up.

So even when it feels like no one is reading, I keep going. Because one day, someone will read it—and that’s enough to keep me motivated.

4. I Have No Idea What I’m Doing Most Days (And That’s Okay)

Some days, I feel like a pro.

Other days, I’m Googling, “How do I make money blogging without losing my mind?”

But here’s the thing: I’m figuring it out.

Every post I write gets me closer to my goal.

Every mistake teaches me something valuable. Every little win—like my first organic page view—feels huge.

I don’t have all the answers, but I have something even more important: determination.

5. I’m Excited to Stick With It

Despite the Pinterest learning curve, SEO struggles, and occasional what am I even doing moments, I love this journey.

I started this blog because I had something to say, and I’m not giving up just because it’s hard.

Balancing blogging with everyday life, especially if you’re a working mom, can feel overwhelming.
