I Started GLP-1 for Binge Eating: Here’s What Happened in My First Month

My GLP-1 Weight Loss Experience Started With Binge Eating

If you’re looking for a real GLP-1 weight loss experience, I want to share mine honestly. I didn’t start GLP-1 because it was trending—I started because I was struggling with binge eating, constant food noise, and feeling out of control around food.

Not just overeating sometimes. I was constantly thinking about food, eating when I wasn’t hungry, and feeling out of control around it. I would think about what I was going to eat next while I was still eating something else. It felt exhausting.

And no matter how many times I told myself to just eat less or have more discipline, it never stuck.

That’s what led me to look into GLP-1 medications like Zepbound.

The Shame I Felt About Starting

Before I even started, I had a lot of mixed emotions.

I spent time reading other people’s GLP-1 weight loss experiences and general medical information from sources like the Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic to better understand how these medications work

Part of me felt hopeful. But another part of me felt ashamed.

There’s still this idea that you should be able to lose weight naturally, and I definitely felt that pressure. My fiancé even said at one point that he wished I would try to do it without medication.

And I get it. I’ve thought about the long-term effects too. I still do sometimes.

But then I think about something bigger.

I want to live. I want to be here for a long time for my family.

And the way I was eating, the constant bingeing and food noise, it was taking a toll on me in a way that felt bigger than just weight.

I had to be honest with myself about that.

What I Started With (Zepbound 2.5 mg)

I started on the 2.5 mg starter dose.

This dose is meant to help your body adjust and ease you into the medication.

Cost (Self-Pay)

  • $299 per month for 2.5 mg
  • $399 per month for 5 mg

Higher doses cost more depending on how far you go.

If you have insurance, your cost may be completely different. Mine doesn’t cover it, so I’m paying out of pocket.

My First 2 Weeks (What It Actually Felt Like)

This is where things really surprised me.

It worked right away.

The same day I took it, I felt different.

I felt full faster. I didn’t want to snack. The constant food noise started to quiet down.

For the first time in a long time, I didn’t feel controlled by food.

The first two weeks, I also felt very full. Sometimes almost too full. There were moments where I just couldn’t eat much at all.

The Side Effects (Being Real About It)

I’m not going to pretend there were no side effects.

The biggest one for me was constipation.

I also dealt with:

  • feeling overly full
  • some fatigue in the beginning
  • insomnia

The insomnia was one of the most frustrating parts. I would wake up in the middle of the night and feel completely awake, like I couldn’t go back to sleep.

What Helped Me Sleep and Stay Regular

I ended up making a few changes that really helped.

For sleep, I started taking Pure Encapsulations Magnesium Glycinate.

I take it about 30 minutes before bed, and it made a big difference. I can now sleep through the night, and if I wake up, I fall back asleep much more easily.

It also seems to help a bit with constipation.

For constipation, I also take Miralax Powder, and that combination has worked really well for me.

Hydration Made a Bigger Difference Than I Expected

One thing I did not realize before starting this was how important water would be.

I’m now drinking at least 80 ounces of water a day.

Before this, I definitely was not drinking enough water.

I noticed pretty quickly that if I didn’t stay hydrated:

  • I would get headaches
  • my constipation would get worse

So now water is something I take seriously every day.

The One Thing That Made Drinking Water Easier

One thing that has helped me stay consistent with drinking water is something I already had at home.

I have one of those water dispensers with the big jug, the kind with the hot and cold water buttons.

I didn’t buy it for this, but it ended up being one of the most helpful things.

It just makes it easy.

I can fill up my cup quickly at home without thinking about it, and I’m way more likely to keep drinking water throughout the day.

If you don’t already have one, a simple at-home water dispenser like top-loading water dispenser can make it a lot easier to stay consistent.

The Cup I Use Every Day

Another thing that’s made a big difference for me is having a cup that I actually like using.

I use the Stanley Quencher H2.0 FlowState Tumbler, and I carry it with me everywhere.

At home, I fill it up from my water dispenser, and I’ll bring it with me to the gym or just keep it nearby during the day.

Having a cup that keeps water cold and holds a lot makes it so much easier to actually drink enough.

What Helped Me With Fatigue

Another thing I dealt with, especially in the beginning, was fatigue.

There were days where I just felt low energy.

So I added Ultima Replenisher Electrolyte Powder, and I do feel like it helps.

I’ll usually mix it into a water bottle in the morning and get that in early, then drink water the rest of the day.

Why I Had to Cut Out Coffee

This was another unexpected change.

I used to drink coffee in the morning, nothing extreme.

But now, even if I drink coffee early in the day, it affects my sleep at night.

So I’ve basically cut it out.

The only time I’ll have coffee now is as a last resort if I’m really struggling with a bowel movement.

But with my current routine, I haven’t really needed it.

My GLP-1 Weight Loss Experience So Far

I started at 241 pounds.

Right now I’m at 226.

That’s about 15 pounds down in around four and a half weeks, and that’s just on the 2.5 mg dose.

At one point, I felt impatient and thought I should move up faster.

But now I don’t regret staying where I am.

The Biggest Change in My GLP-1 Weight Loss Experience

The biggest thing for me isn’t even the number on the scale.

It’s the quiet.

The food noise being reduced has been life-changing.

I’m not constantly thinking about food anymore.

I don’t feel like I have to finish everything on my plate. I can say I’m not hungry and actually mean it.

That alone has been huge for me.

How Going to the Gym Became Part of This

Another big change I made was going to the gym.

I used to have a membership at Planet Fitness, but I wasn’t consistent.

Then my fiancé started going to The Edge Fitness Clubs, and I decided to switch.

That made a huge difference.

I actually enjoy going now.

What I Do at the Gym

I keep it simple.

I spend most of my time on the elliptical, and I genuinely like it. It feels like I’m skiing, and I can stay on it for a long time.

I’ve been going for about an hour a day, and that consistency feels different this time.

How the Gym Is Affecting My Eating

One thing I didn’t expect from my GLP-1 weight loss experience was how much my daily habits would shift.

After I go to the gym, I naturally want to make better choices.

I’m not perfect. I still have things like chicken wings sometimes.

But it feels easier to think about balance and get back on track.

What the Injections Are Actually Like

I was nervous about injecting myself at first, but it’s been easier than I expected.

I’ve rotated between my stomach and legs.

When I used my stomach, I felt more fatigue.

When I switched to my legs, I noticed less fatigue and possibly less nausea.

From what I’ve researched, it works the same regardless of where you inject.

The “Viral” Appetite Product I Tried

I also tried Foodology Coleology Cutting Jelly after seeing it online.

I don’t want to say it did nothing, but it didn’t make a big difference for me.

It was nothing like what I’m experiencing now.

I didn’t even finish the box, which says a lot.

The Supplement Rabbit Hole I Went Down

I also bought NOW Foods Glycine 1000 mg Capsules when I was researching sleep supplements.

It’s supposed to help with sleep and calming your system.

But I haven’t even used it.

Once I found what worked, I didn’t feel like I needed to add more.

What I Actually Use vs What I Tried

When I first started, I felt like I needed to buy everything.

But I didn’t.

What I Actually Use

  • Magnesium
  • Miralax
  • Electrolytes
  • Water

What I Tried

  • Cutting jelly
  • Glycine

Where I’m At Now

I’m still working through the feelings around this.

The shame isn’t completely gone.

But I also know this has helped me in a way nothing else has.

My Honest Take

This has been my personal GLP-1 weight loss experience so far, and while I’m still figuring things out, it’s already changed the way I relate to food.

GLP-1 isn’t magic.

But for me, it removed something that felt impossible to control.

It helped me feel like I’m not constantly fighting myself.

I’m still a work in progress.

But this feels sustainable.
